The Department of Sociology and Economic Law was established in 2012 through the merger of the ‘Achille Ardigò’ Department of Sociology and the Department of Legal Disciplines of Economics and Business. Its roots lie in a long tradition of sociological and legal-economic studies that has contributed significantly to the development of research and education at national and international level.
Today, the Department is characterised by dialogue between sociology, law and economics, and by an interdisciplinary approach focused on the study of the transformations taking place within society, institutions and the economy.
Within this framework, the SDE designs and develops teaching and research activities – both pure and applied – in the sociological, legal and economic fields, at both national and international levels, through collaboration with public institutions, businesses, third-sector organisations and local communities.
Twenty-two scientific fields belonging to four disciplinary areas contribute to the study of contemporary social, economic and institutional transformations. The Department’s activities are based at the Bologna and Forlì campuses, where eight Research Centres and a multimedia Laboratory promote studies ranging from social inequalities to economic regulation, from labour to sustainability, from digital communication to social security, and much more, fostering dialogue between sociology, law and economics.
